The Hot Stove isn't at full boil just yet, but things are perking up. One flashpoint is in Anaheim where it looks like the Angels are gearing up for a big run at Carl Crawford. That news isn't particularly surprising given the Angels' need for both a left fielder and a bat to support Kendry Morales, Torii Hunter and Bobby Abreu. Crawford and Jayson Werth both fit that description, but Crawford is a better fielder and baserunner which makes him seem like a better fit for what Mike Scioscia likes to put on the field.
The biggest question mark would seem to be if Arte Moreno is prepared to go the extra mile to make sure he lands Crawford. The Angels owner has never doled out a $100 million contract, a number that probably represents the low end of any reasonable guess for what Crawford will take home over the life of his contract.
