Pirates Fire Manager John Russell

The Pirates have been around 124 years, but the 2010 season easily qualified as one of their worst. The 57-105 debacle cost manager John Russell his job Monday.

The move was expected, as the Pirates had seen their record get worse in each season of Russell's tenure. He compiled a 186-299 mark overall.

"We decided that new leadership in the clubhouse would give us the best opportunity to move this major league team forward," Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said in a press release announcing the dismissal.

Beyond their abysmal record, the 2010 Pirates compiled some astonishing statistics that went deeper in telling the story of their futility. As detailed by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
