The Athletics will need a new pitching coach for 2011 after a longtime organizational standby decided on a change of scenery.Curt Young, a former starter for Oakland who has tutored the A's pitchers the past seven seasons, turned down a new contract with the team and will move on. The A's made the announcement Sunday, and by the wording it was clear they wanted Young to stick around.
"Curt has a long history within our organization and we appreciate all of his contributions to the A's -- as a player, as a minor league coach, and ultimately as the pitching coach here in Oakland," David Forst, the A's assistant general manager, said in a statement. "We are disappointed that he has chosen not to accept our offer to return in 2011 but we wish him well as he explores other opportunities within the game."
