1. Can't predict ball: The Boston Red Sox had won or split their past 11 series since June ? but that was before they tasted the business end of the Seattle Mariners' hot steel.� The Dire M's denied poor Tim Wakefield his 200th career win again, beating Boston 5-3 behind the amusingly named Charlie Furbush on Sunday. The Yankees got rained out, so the Red Sox lead the AL East by point-five. Do not worry: Ichiro (pictured) was not harmed by this pitch. It's all an illusion, folks.
2. Tell me why: St. Louis slugger Albert Pujols hit a 465-foot home run, the longest in newer Busch Stadium history, and the Colorado Rockies dropped their 17th consecutive Sunday game, falling 6-2 to the Cardinals. The Rockies might want to shoot the whole day down, but they're lucky this isn't the NFL, where every day is Sunday, or something.
3. What's his name again?: Another nice job by Ryan Vogelsong, who retired 17 straight over one stretch, leading the Giants to a 5-2 victory at Florida. He got a little bothered when Burke Badenhop hit him with a pitch in the arm, but both sides said it had nothing to do with leftover bad feelings about Buster Posey and Scott Cousins. Remember them? Well, Jack McKeon might not. Also: Rookie Brandon Belt hit two homers.
4. Them's the breaks: Tough day for the Diamondbacks, even though they beat the Mets 5-3 after getting a home run from Justin Upton: They lost Jason Marquis, probably for the year, with a broken leg after he was hit by a one-hop comebacker on the right shin. Marquis thought it was just a bruise, but it wasn't.
5. Bierbrauer, yah: Everyone, including Zack Greinke presumably, wore the right jerseys that reflected German heritage for the Brewers as they beat the Pirates 2-1 in 10 innings to complete a three-game sweep at Miller Park. Nyjer Morgan, commence the fun! (Yes, T-Plush, it's the winning run.)
6. Half and half: The White Sox finally overcame their mortal fear of .500, getting there after beating the Royals 6-2 behind lefty John Danks and the 10th homer by Brent Lillibridge. Now, if they could only get past their aversion to being over .500, which they haven't been since they were 7-6 on April 15...
7. Thanks for nothin': The Cubs spoiled a nice run of ball played by the Atlanta Braves, taking the series and stopping Dan Uggla's hitting streak at 33 games in a 6-5 victory. Where did Darwin Barney come from on this play?
8. Here they come: The Rangers might be getting on one of their strange rolls. They blew a six-run lead like it was nothing but held on to beat the A's 7-6 to complete a sweep at Oakland.
9. Dirty faces: This is no way for the Angels to be looking as they head into a showdown with Texas. The resilient Blue Jays beat them 5-4 in 10 innings thanks to a game-ending single by Edwin Encarnacion. The Halos went 2-4 on their road trip.
