The proposed season-opening two-game series between San Francisco and the Diamondbacks in the Far East next March won't happen, the Diamondbacks said Friday.
The Taiwan trip, first floated back in the spring, had never been approved by the Giants' players, and it had been considered in doubt as soon as they got to the playoffs -- let alone played deep enough to see their season end in November.
It wouldn't have been an unprecedented move, as the Red Sox played their first game after winning it all in 2007 against the A's in Japan the following spring. But the Giants never gave the impression they were enthused about the proposed journey.
