St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, who's been dealing with soreness in his right knee since late August, probably won't play again this season, general manager John Mozeliak told reporters Thursday .Molina went through a battery of medical exams which showed that the two-time Gold Glove catcher would likely not require surgery.
"There was no structural damage," Mozeliak said. "A little inflammation under the patella, so at this point we just plan on resting him. At this point he probably won't play [again this year].
Molina was batting .262 with six home runs and 62 RBI for the season, but has had been dealing with pain and discomfort on a daily basis since he injured his knee while playing against the Washington Nationals.
The Cardinals are taking the approach of rest being the best method of fixing the pain in Molina's knee. But Mozeliak did say if the Cardinals found a way to enter postseason play, Molina could be an option.
