Berkman, 34, batted .245 with 13 home runs and 49 RBI in 85 games for Houston and, like the rest of the his new lineup, was adept at drawing walks (60). He is expected to become the Yankees' primary DH.
With Nick Johnson out since early May, Yankees DHs have hit just .248.
The Yankees can now start four switch-hitters most nights: Berkman, Mark Teixeira, Jorge Posada and Nick Swisher.
