Home Not Where Twins' Heart Is, for Now

Denard Span, Orlando Hudson and Joe MauerCHICAGO -- It's becoming more evident than ever that the Minnesota Twins don't have to be concerned with the Chicago White Sox any longer.

Wins in the first two games of the final three-game series of the year between the two American League Central squads put that one to rest. Minnesota, which has won all six series between the two, leads Chicago by eight games with 17 games to play, including Thursday's series finale.

The Twins pretty much don't need to be concerned about anybody right now. They can just push the counting of their magic number, currently 10, meaning any combination of Minnesota wins and Chicago losses totaling 10 gives the Twins the title and a berth in the playoffs.

No, the teams that need to be concerned about the Twins are the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays. The two AL East beasts have been trading off having the best record in the league much of the season, but with the Twins' 9-3 vanquishing of the White Sox Wednesday, Minnesota is ready to contest for that honor. The Twins are tied with the Yankees with 58 losses, one less than the AL East-leading Rays.
