The team announced Tuesday that they won't be exercising their 2011 option on first baseman Adam LaRoche. He was in line to make $7.5 million but will get a $1.5 million buyout and become a free agent instead.
LaRoche passed up on an offer from the Giants to sign with the Diamondbacks, a decision that had ramifications that went much further than most people imagined when it went down in January.
There's not much point in wondering what if at this point in time, but if LaRoche chose the San Francisco offer then they wouldn't have signed Aubrey Huff and wouldn't have gotten his clutch Game 4 home run en route to the title they won on Monday night.
