Wood and the team that originally drafted him way back in 1995 have agreed to a one-year deal that will bring him back to the Windy City just three years after he left. Wood will make $1.5 million, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, after turning down a $3.5 million offer from the White Sox.
The hard-throwing right-hander came through the Cubs' system as a starter and stunned the baseball world in 1998 when, at age 20, he struck out 20 hitters in the fifth start of his career.
A series of injuries eventually forced Wood to convert to relief in 2007, and he's had a bit of rebirth since then, racking up 62 saves since 2008 and serving as a setup man for the Yankees after a trade deadline deal sent him from Cleveland to New York.
