Rumors that a nasty divorce derailed Yankees pitcher A.J. Burnett's 2010 season were shot down by his agent Darek Braunecker.Speaking at Cliff Lee's Phillies press conference, Braunecker, who represents both pitchers, told reporters (including Newsday) that ESPN radio host Colin Cowherd's contention that a divorce hurt Burnett on the field this year was "false," and that Cowherd had "no idea" what he was talking about.
"A.J. Burnett went through a terrible divorce and he still might (be) going through it," Cowherd said Wednesday morning on "The Herd," his radio show. "His wife was vindictive and spiteful. I don't even feel comfortable telling you everything. The stories are ugly."
Burnett went 10-15 with a 5.26 ERA this year, and made just one start in the postseason -- a loss to the Texas Rangers in the ALCS. In addition to his poor performance on the mound, Burnett came under fire for two injuries.
