LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Twins are optimistic they can sign Japanese infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka, and their total investment could be less than $15 million.Minnesota won the posting for the switch-hitting Nishioka with a bid of about $5 million, according to a source, and are working on signing him for two or three years at $3-4 million per year. A second source said that the Twins have offered him a three-year deal with a total value in the range of $9-10 million.
Nishioka, 26, played for the Chiba Lotte Marines in the Japanese Pacific League, where he batted .293 over eight seasons, including a .346 average in 2010.
