TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Lorenzo Cain realizes that professional baseball is both a game and a business. The latter was clearly evident last week at the Winter Meetings when word began to spread that Milwaukee was interested in moving Cain to help its rotation, which last season had a 4.65 ERA, second-worst in the National League.
Cain, a 24-year-old center fielder who made his major league debut last season, admitted surprise when informed of the news by friends. However, Cain also understood it comes with the territory and trade chatter is as much a tradition of baseball as is Cracker Jack caramel-coated popcorn.
