Most of the attention on the 2011 free agent class of the Brewers has centered on Prince Fielder, but he's not the only starting infielder whose contract runs out after next season.Rickie Weeks can be a free agent as well, and, unlike his hefty teammate, he is open to giving up his shot at the open market for some security and fistfuls of Milwaukee's cash. General manager Doug Melvin has indicated a willingness to talk about a deal and reportedly met with Weeks' agent at the general manager meetings on Wednesday.
"We've had one phone call and that's not something I can really comment on right now, but I'm open to listening, of course," Weeks said. "I've said to Doug before, 'I'm ready.' So we'll leave it at that and see where that takes us."
