Spending the next three years with Jorge De La Rosa suits the Colorado Rockies just fine, but 2014 is a bridge too far. That's the word from Troy Renck of the Denver Post who does a little reading between the lines on a comment from general manager Dan O'Dowd. O'Dowd said that the team wanted De La Rosa back "at a number where we believe he fits" and Renck doesn't think that the team is going to get into a bidding war for his services.
That might mean it is time to wave goodbye to De La Rosa. The 29-year-old ranks high on the lists of several teams and a free-agent market short on starting pitching will likely work to his advantage once negotiations start getting serious. The Pirates have already indicated their interest and either the Rangers and Yankees could wade into the fray once Cliff Lee breaks one of their hearts.
