Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire's contract runs through the 2011 season, but from the sounds of it, he'll be managing in Minneapolis a bit longer than that. Before the Twins lost Game 3 and were swept by the Yankees in the ALDS, the team's CEO Jim Pohlad said that his manager will be getting a contract extension in the near future.'"That's just such a nonissue," Pohlad told the Star-Tribune. "We all know that's a no-brainer. We are going to get something done."
In one sense, it is a total "no-brainer" that the Twins would want to extend Gardenhire's contract. Since he took over for Tom Kelly in 2002, Gardenhire's Twins have won the AL Central six times in nine seasons, going 803-656 and never finishing worse than third in the division.
But then there's what has happened to them in the postseason. In Gardenhire's first season the Twins reached the ALCS where they lost to the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Angels in five games. Since then things haven't gone nearly as well.
