The Cubs, with a tight budget and a need for starting pitching, are seriously considering former Cy Young Award winner Brandon Webb, a free-agent right-hander coming off shoulder surgery, according to a major-league source.Webb has not pitched in the majors since Opening Day 2009, so any deal would likely be incentive-laden.
The source said the Cubs have been in talks with Webb's agent, Jonathan Maurer.
The Cubs have Carlos Zambrano and Ryan Dempster for their 2011 rotation but not much certain beyond that.
