Adam Kennedy Gets Minors Deal in Seattle

The Mariners added to their infield depth Monday by signing veteran Adam Kennedy to a minor league deal.

Kennedy will be in major league camp with Seattle, vying primarily with Josh Wilson to back up middle infielders Jack Wilson and Brendan Ryan.

Monday is Kennedy's 35th birthday. He spent 2010 with the Nationals, but Washington declined its $2 million option on him for 2011. Kennedy mostly played second base last season but also got numerous assignments as a late-game defensive replacement for Adam Dunn at first base.

The best seasons of his 12-year career came with the Angels, who he helped to the 2002 World Series title. He is best known for hitting three home runs against the Twins in Game 5 of the ALCS that year but has a .308 average and .843 OPS in 25 career playoff games.
