It looks like it is about time for Hamlet to come down off the castle wall and tell everyone what's on his mind.Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork.com reported Monday that the Yankees expect to hear from Andy Pettitte this week about whether or not he plans on pitching for them in 2011. He and his family were in Hawaii for an extended vacation, but they are back home in Texas, which should give him a chance to finally fill in the team about his intentions.
The signs have pointed to Pettitte retiring for some time now and the extended nature of his thought process certainly leads to that conclusion. If he hasn't been working out and preparing himself to get back on the mound, as several reports have indicated, there isn't a great deal of time left for Pettitte to round himself into shape for 2011.
That's significant for anyone, but all the more so for a 37-year-old player who struggled with injuries at the tail-end of the season.
