Austin Kearns is headed back to Cleveland. The Indians re-signed the veteran outfielder to a one-year deal, the team announced Monday. Kearns reportedly will make $1.3 million plus possible incentives.
The 30-year-old signed with Cleveland last offseason, too, and played in 84 games for the Indians before being traded to the Yankees on July 30. In all, Kearns hit .263 with 10 homers and a .746 OPS in 120 games between the two teams.
Kearns obviously has a soft spot for Ohio, having begun his major league career with the Reds and now signing twice in a year with the Indians. The Lexington, Ky., native also spent 3 1/2 seasons with the Nationals.
The Indians are on the verge of adding another outfielder, as well. MLB.com reports Travis Buck has agreed to a minor league deal with Cleveland.
