The Angels have a left-handed reliever in their bullpen again.Free agent Hisanori Takahashi signed a two-year deal with the Angels after passing a physical Thursday, the team announced. The New York Times originally reported a deal was close.
Takahashi, 35, had a successful first season in the United States after spending 10 years with the Yomiuri Giants. He filled several roles with the Mets and performed capably as both a starter and a reliever for the team. He even finished the year in the closer's role after Francisco Rodriguez was injured while fighting with his girlfriend's father following one of the team's losses. All told, Takahashi was 10-6 with a 3.61 ERA, but he posted a 2.04 ERA and more than nine strikeouts per nine innings out of the bullpen.
