Designated hitter Jim Thome provided plenty of punch for the Minnesota Twins last season. His 25 home runs and .283 batting average were pivotal to the Twins' playoff run, especially after first baseman Justin Morneau was forced to stop playing because of a concussion. At the end of last season, the 40-year-old Thome thought he wanted to keep playing baseball, but wanted a little time to talk thing over with his family. According to his agent, Pat Rooney, Thome is ready to commit to playing in 2011, maybe longer.
"He has no intention of retiring," Rooney said.
Now that everyone knows that Thome wants to continue, the question remains where. While many teams will shy away from a designated hitter that will turn 41 next year and hasn't played more than 150 games in a season since 2003, Rooney says that a number of teams have expressed interest in Thome. The Twins are one of them.
