My first reaction to the Troy Tulowitzki deal?Too soon.
Too much.
Even for Tulo, a franchise player who could be the next John Elway in Denver.
The Rockies had Tulowitzki, 26, under contract for four more years.
Why cement the fourth year into place for $15 million and guarantee six more years to the tune of $119 million?
"Bottom line was, because it was the right thing to do," Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said on Tuesday.
O'Dowd presides over one of the sharpest collections of baseball scouts in the industry.
The Rockies have done a tremendous job of finding and developing players, and they expect that to continue.
