Chone FigginsChone Figgins, who had his greatest success as a third baseman and floundered some when moved to second base by Seattle last year, will go into spring training with the Mariners as their third baseman.

General manager Jack Zduriencik, who traded 2010's third baseman, Jose Lopez, to Colorado, told the Everett Herald Thursday that Figgins has been asked to move back to third base and he's agreed.

"We have talked to Chone about going back to third base and he's well aware of it," Zduriencik said. "His response was, 'Fine, I'll do what is best for the club.' "

Figgins was a third baseman with the Angels for the bulk of his career in Anaheim, and third base was open when he signed with Seattle. But rather than have him move to take over the spot long held by Adrian Beltre, then-manager Don Wakamatsu and Zduriencik asked Figgins to move to second while Lopez moved to third.
