LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Needing to cut payroll further in wake of the impending sale of the franchise, the Astros are looking to move reliever Matt Lindstrom and infielder Jeff Keppinger, according to a person in contact with Houston's front office.Houston already had the contracts of Lance Berkman and Roy Oswalt off the books. But on Nov. 19, owner Drayton McLane announced his intention to sell the team, and thus apparently intends to trim salary further to make the team more attractive.
While the Astros were 76-86 last season, they were 40-33 after the All-Star break, fourth-best in the National League, and 59-52 from June 1 on.
Lindstrom, 31 in February, began 2010 as the Astros' closer but, after getting 23 saves, eventually lost the job to Brandon Lyon. Lindstrom is eligible for arbitration and a raise from the $1.625 million he made in 2010. After the All-Star break he was 0-4 with a 7.50 ERA.
Keppinger, 31 in April, hit .288 with 34 doubles while starting 122 games at second base and 10 at shortstop. He is also eligible for arbitration after making $1.15 million in 2010.
