Mario Cuomo to Mediate Mets Dispute

Mario Cuomo, the former governor of New York, has been assigned to mediate the ongoing feud between the Mets' owners and a trustee attempting to recover funds from the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme.

The New York Daily News reports Cuomo was tasked with the duty Thursday by Judge Burton R. Lifland of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

Trustee Irving Picard is seeking approximately $300 million from Sterling Equities, the company owned by Fred Wilpon, his son Jeff and Saul Katz. Picard has alleged that the Mets' owners "knew or should have known" about Madoff's scheme while it was in progress.

Sterling had invested hundreds of millions of dollars with Madoff before his scheme came to light in December 2008.
