The Orioles finally have found their first baseman for 2011, reportedly agreeing to a one-year deal with Derrek Lee.The Baltimore Sun first cited a source saying the deal was done, pending a physical. Salary figures weren't immediately available, but the one-year commitment leaves the Orioles plenty of flexibility -- especially compared to their reported three-year offer worth around $21 million that was rejected by Adam LaRoche.
Lee, a 14-year major league veteran, should help the Orioles with his power, defense and leadership. His numbers for the Cubs and Braves in 2010 were his worst in a decade -- .260 average, 19 homers, .774 OPS -- but those stats would have looked stellar in Baltimore last year.
Orioles first basemen (mostly Ty Wigginton and Garrett Atkins) combined to hit .226 with 11 homers, 59 RBI and a .625 OPS last season.
