Tony Gwynn is planning his return to coaching at San Diego State and to the broadcast booth now that the Hall of Fame outfielder has completed eight weeks of cancer treatments, which included chemotherapy and radiation.The Padres lifer was diagnosed with cancer of the parotid gland back in August, and after surgery then to remove lymph nodes and tumors in the area, he began a round of treatment in October and finished it just after Christmas. He also went through a rehab program for back problems.
"I was in bad shape," Gwynn told the San Diego Union-Tribune last week. "Not only was I dealing with the cancer, I was having to use a walker to get around and I wasn't doing a great job of that. ...
