Delino DeShields Jr., the Astros' top draft pick last summer, was arrested and charged with DUI and underage possession alcohol over the weekend after being stopped by police for driving in the wrong direction on a one-way street.DeShields, the 18-year-old son and namesake of the longtime major league player and current minor league manager, was arrested in Athens, Ga., Saturday night. Police said his blood-alcohol level measured at 0.094. He was released from Clarke County jail on $2,500 bond, according to the Athens Banner-Herald, and posted an apology Monday on his Facebook page.
"I take the responsibility of being a role model seriously and apologize to my fans, my community and the Astros organization, who continue to support my family and I during this unfortunate incident," DeShields said. "I look forward to putting this matter behind me and sincerely appreciate the respect of privacy during this personal matter."
Astros general manager Ed Wade told MLB.com the team didn't have any comment on the arrest.
